BMW NorCal unveiled its New Camper Program at the July Member Meeting and Campout.
This pilot program, spearheaded by Board member Kevin Coleman and launched by the Board in July, is an educational program intended to help first time campers get into moto camping and includes loaner gear. For those interested in pitching in, we are collecting gently used camping gear - primarily tents, sleeping bags, and sleeping pads. Our target audience, people new to moto camping that don't know where to start, haven't had the camping experience, and haven't yet started to purchase their own gear.

Taking advantage of the program was a very enthusiastic Ashok Subbarama. Not only was this his first time camping, it was his furthest motorcycle ride! And since we were camping up at the amazing Forks of the Salmon, he had a perfect introduction to moto camping!

Contact us at camp@bmwnorcal.org with questions and to donate gear. Ank keep an eye out on the website for more information.

In the meantime click here for more info on moto camping with BMW NorCal.

As you know June is the annual election meeting, this year held at Chanslor Ranch at Salmon Creek on the Sonoma Coast. The results of this year's election are as follows:

    President: Greg Hutchinson

    Vice President: Mike Morlin

    Secretary: Fred Montano

    Treasurer: Kevin Coleman

    Safety Director: Jorgen Larsen

    Historian: Rick Webb

    Tour Captain: Nick Gloyd

This year's Board has a great mix of seasoned and new members, and should prove to be a strong and dynamic leadership team for the Club over the next year.

It should be noted that by stepping into the Vice President position, Mike Morlin will now have served in all of the Board positions! Welcome Mike and thank you! And thanks to the rest of the Board as well.

It is with a heavy heart that we are sharing the passing of a friend, Ted Hutz. Ted was an early and long-time member of BMW NorCal and as a Club we want to express our condolences to his family. For those of you that knew Ted and want to pay your respects, there will be Memorial service on Saturday, June 2nd at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 701 S. Pleasant Ave. in Lodi, CA. Friends are invited to join family at Woodbridge Country Club following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted for the BMW Club of Northern California in memory of Ted. A quick heads-up that as Tour Captain I am working on introducing and implementing a new approach to the group riding we do with the club.

As most of you have noticed we have steadily been getting more participants on the monthly Meeting/ Campout Rides as well as the Second Sunday Breakfast Rides, with 30 plus riders being the new norm. Instead of maintaining up to 15-20 riders per group, with a leader and a sweep, we will be looking at groups of 4-5 with a leader only. The groups will ride the same routes, start and finish in the same places, and overlap for breaks and fill-ups at the same places. But we will ride in smaller, more nimble groups that will navigate through surface streets and traffic lights easier and take less time to organize and mobilize. Riders of similar riding ability will ride together; folks that want to ride at a more spirited pace can, while folks that want a more casual pace can as well. This is a safer approach that will make the group rides more efficient and fun.

Please contact me with any questions or comments at TourCaptain@bmwnorcal.org

    Thanks!

    Nick

Welcome Fred Montano and Rick Webb to the Board of Directors as Secretary and Historian! They stepped up to fill the recent vacancies and will be on the Board until at least the June election. Come out to the Next Member meeting to see them in action!
