What is the BMW NorCal Range of Light Gypsy Tour, a rally like no other! Why? Because this is no stationary rally. This is a riding rally, a two day event conceived for riding fans, by riding fans. Riders will be treated to exceptional road and optional GS routes, showcasing some of the best riding and scenery in the West. And be sure to bring fresh tires as you can expect to ride around 300 miles each day. Our destination? You won't know until the day before. This is a closely guarded secret - all we can tell you is the start point.
Riders can look forward to:
The Range of Light Gypsy Tour is part adventure, part test piece, part endurance event, part riding tour, part camp-out, and 100% fun. So register now and join those ready for the best rally in the West! The 2019 Rally started at Grass Valley at the Nevada County Horsemen Event Grounds, ideally situated to downtown Grass Valley for Friday night dinner and Saturday morning breakfast.
And as with all BMW NorCal events, riders of all brands of motorcycles are welcome to ride in the ROL, as long as the bikes are street legal, in sound working order, registered and insured.
In 2019, for the very first time, non BMW NorCal registrants that own BMWs are eligible for Club membership! This is a nod to the dedication of ROL Gypsy Tour riders, and the riding and camping involved with this event is the foundation the BMW NorCal Club is built on. Q: Do I need a GS or is the ROL Gypsy Tour suitable for all bikes?
A: The main focus of the ROL Gypsy Tour is excellent riding over really great paved roads that riders of all bikes will enjoy. There are, however, optional GS routes that are intended for those on adventure bikes.
Q: What if I can't make the Friday check-in?
A: Riders not able to make the Friday check-in can meet early Saturday to check-in, get Saturday's route and destination, and drop off your gear with the Sag Wagon.
Q: This is a 3 night, 2 day Rally. Do we stay at the same place each night?
A: No. Being a Gypsy Tour we ride to a new destination each day and set up a new camp. We provide a Sag Wagon to haul your gear so you can ride light!
Q: What if the intended route is too long of a ride for me?
A: The route may seem daunting but once you are on it you'll probably eat it up and ask for more. That said, if you are feeling overwhelmed there are usually shortcuts to shorten the distance. Once you get the daily destination you can make that call.
