This year marks the 40th anniversary of the San Francisco Marathon, an iconic race that attracts 27,000 participants! Each year, the San Francisco Marathon reaches out to motorcycle riders across Northern California to serve as course monitors, for intersections and traffic guidance along the route, and for road closures.
These monitors act as security for runners along the course, provide spectator crowd control, and minimize conflicts with public transit and/or vehicle traffic across the road closures. Each volunteer will be stationed at an intersection for approximately 4-6 hours, starting around 5am-6am on Sunday, July 23rd. As a thank you for your time, each volunteer will receive a 2017 San Francisco Marathon Course Monitor Pin as well as a donation of $90, which we want to donate to the MOA Foundation ("advancing rider safety, education and training”).
Last year’s volunteers from our club had a great experience. We are hoping to recruit volunteers for various positions from the BMW NorCal members. For those who are interested, please sign up here by June 1, 2017. Instructions and materials regarding each assignment will be provided to each participant by Friday, June 9th.
