It's time again for BMW NorCal's premier riding rally!
This year we're starting at the Colusa County Fairgrounds in Colusa!
The BMW NorCal Range of Light Gypsy Tour, is a rally like no other! Why? Because this is no stationary rally. This is a riding rally, a two day event conceived for true riding fans, by true riding fans. Riders will be treated to exceptional road and optional GS routes, showcasing some of the best riding and scenery in the West. And be sure to bring fresh tires as you can expect around 300 miles each day. Our destinations? You won't know until the day before. This is a closely guarded secret - all we can tell you is the start point.
The rally we know today had its humble beginnings in 1991 when a group of BMW NorCal visionaries organized this event to ride, camp, and celebrate some of the best riding of the Sierra Nevada - the "Range of Light". And while these days we technically stray out of the Range of Light, we still stay true to the original intent of the first ROL Rallies.
Today riders can look forward to:
The Range of Light Gypsy Tour is part adventure, part test piece, part endurance event, part riding tour, part camp-out, and 100% fun. So register now and join those ready for the best rally in the West! This year we start at Chico, CA at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds ideally situated near downtown for great Friday night dinner options and Saturday morning breakfast. Check-in and gate registrations open at 3:00 P.M.
And as with all BMW NorCal events, riders of all brands of motorcycles are welcome to ride in the ROL, as long as the bikes are street legal, in sound working order, registered and insured. And remember, BMW motorcycle owners are eligible for Club membership with their registration and payment of the annual dues! This is a nod to the dedication of ROL Gypsy Tour riders, and the riding and camping involved with this event is the foundation the BMW NorCal Club is built on. September will be the most ambitions club campout in a while. We are headed to Oregon. Because of the distance, we have reserved the campsite for both Friday and Saturday. There are outstanding riding opportunities in the southern part of Oregon. Given the length of the ride, the Saturday breakfast spot is Stan's Maple in Ukiah. Arrive by 8 am if you want breakfast. Fill up your tank BEFORE breakfast and be ready to roll at 9am sharp.
Because of the distance to this campsite our member meeting will be held at 6 PM.
The Chinquapin Group Campground is located at the former site of the Camp Oregon Caves Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp. During the Great Depression from 1933- 1941 the Camp Oregon Caves Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp was home to over 200 men who worked on projects in the Siskiyou National Forest and the Oregon Caves National Monument. Today, the only structure currently remaining at the site is the historic Grayback Ranger Station, constructed by CCC crews around 1936 and located immediately adjacent to the Chinquapin Group Campground. The large Port- Orford cedar tree located near the back of the parking area was dedicated in 2011 as the 56th Oregon State Heritage Tree and is a living reminder of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and Camp Oregon Caves CCC camp. Water, picnic tables and fire rings are readily available at three locations in the campground and a restroom is located at the back of the parking area. Within a short walking distance there are swimming areas in Grayback Creek and creek side trails with meadows, marshes, spring wildflowers, wildlife and berry picking. Sept Visitors can continue 10 miles east on Hwy 46 and visit Oregon Caves National Monument for a tour of one of the few marble caves in the world.
Route sheet and GPS files will be emailed in your registration confirmation email.
